π Cycle Cities Buzz - New Faces, New Ideas, Same Community π²

Hi Reader,
This week I'd like to start by welcoming our newest member, Denis from Bike Tirana (Albania), who has already jumped into the community and brought plenty of energy to the WhatsApp group.
One of the things I enjoy most about Cycle Cities is seeing how quickly operators start helping each other. Within days of joining, Denis was already exchanging ideas with members, discussing direct bookings, Google Ads, bike fleets, and sharing some of the challenges he's currently facing as he grows his business.
Welcome aboard, Denis! π²
Groupwork Gold Nuggets π
This week's insights come from:
Morning Group D: The Tech Optimizers β AI & Dataβ (Julian Zimmermann, Fabien Bircheux, Kim Tierenteyn, Bruno Correia, Javier Muela DΓaz, Miguel Serano)
2. What is the single most valuable data point you track in your booking system?
β’ Email Addressesβ Several operators identified customer email addresses as their most valuable asset. They power newsletters, repeat bookings, referrals, and future multi-day tour sales.
β’ Predictive Financial Dataβ Larger operators closely monitor booking dates versus travel dates to forecast future revenue and make investment decisions with confidence.
β’ Customer Originβ Tracking where customers come from β both geographically and by acquisition channel β helps optimize marketing spend and understand market opportunities.
β’ Direct vs OTA Salesβ Many operators monitor the ratio between direct bookings and OTA bookings as a key indicator of business health, profitability, and long-term independence.
β’ AI Reputationβ An emerging trend: checking how AI tools like ChatGPT describe your business. As more travelers use AI for trip planning, operators are becoming increasingly aware of how their companies appear in AI-generated recommendations
Insight: The most valuable data isn't always the most complicated. The operators gaining the biggest advantage are often the ones consistently tracking a few key metrics and using them to make better decisions over time.
Symposium News π€ Hamburg Is Taking Shape π²
The plans for Hamburg continue to move forward, and this week we're sharing a short video from Lars and Steve talking about what's being prepared behind the scenes.
There are still many details being finalized, but one thing is already guaranteed:
π There will be a party.
Hamburg is shaping up to be a fantastic Symposium, with a strong host, a great city, valuable industry speakers, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow operators.
The community became noticeably more active this week.
Denis' arrival sparked conversations around:
Direct bookings and Google Ads
Mentorship and operator feedback
E-bike fleet purchasing
Spare parts and maintenance
Chinese bike imports and EU tariffs
Insurance costs and battery replacement
A few greetings from Antwerp (and possibly a beer or two π»)
One particularly interesting moment came when Denis shared a document asking for feedback on his business setup and upcoming Google Ads strategy. It was a great example of the kind of open knowledge-sharing that makes this network valuable.
Sometimes the best answers don't come from consultants or agencies.
They come from operators who've already solved the same problem.

Hi Reader, A quick update before we dive into this week's insights. The new Cycle Cities website is now live and looking significantly cleaner, more professional, and much easier to navigate. Over the past weeks I've also been reviewing member profiles and, while doing so, I've noticed that some information is no longer up to date. In a few cases, social media usernames have changed, websites have been updated, or descriptions no longer reflect the current business. If you haven't, could you...
Hi Reader, As preparations for Symposium 2027 continue, I thought it would be fun to hear directly from the person making it all happen. For those who haven't met him yet, Lars from Hamburg City Cycles is our local host for next year's Symposium, and over the past months he's been helping us shape what promises to be a fantastic event. He recently shared some thoughts about Hamburg, the city, the cycling culture, and what members can expect next year. Quick Facts About Hamburg ~1.9 million...
Hi Reader, A quick bit of housekeeping before we jump into this weekβs updates: In the last newsletter, I shared a tool that brings together and contextualises all the previous resources weβve been building, making them easier to apply in a practical, step-by-step way. I also shared the new Legacy Member Badge for original Cycle Cities members. If you didnβt download it yet, you can access it π here! For those who already sent over content for social media: thank you! Everything is now...
