🐝 Cycle Cities Buzz - The Ideas Worth Borrowing This Week 🚲

Hi Reader,

I hope everyone survived the World Cup final weekend! And congratulations to our Spanish Members!!

I deliberately held this newsletter until Monday rather than competing with one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

Now that the World Cup is over, let's get back to what brings us together every week: helping independent bike tour operators build stronger businesses.

Symposium News 🀝

Hamburg 2027 is getting closer.

Although there isn't a major update this week, this is a good reminder not to leave your registration until the last minute.

The Early Bird rate remains available until September, and as we've shared before, we're putting together what promises to be another fantastic Symposium.

With operators from across Europe, practical workshops, networking, and speakers like Christian TΓ€nzler, it's becoming much more than an eventβ€”it's where many of the conversations that shape the community begin.

How do you balance personal touch with automated booking confirmations?

Automation saves timeβ€”but everyone agreed that guests should never feel like they're talking to a robot.

Here were some of the approaches shared:

The following content is only visible for the Cycle Cities Members.

βœ… Automate the process, not the warmth. Even automated confirmations include a personal welcome, thanking guests for booking and building excitement for the experience ahead.

βœ… Use confirmations to strengthen the community. Some operators include recommendations for trusted Cycle Cities members in other destinations, helping travellers discover more great bike tours while reinforcing the network.

βœ… Some things are still worth doing manually. A few operators continue sending every confirmation personally, believing the extra effort creates a stronger first impression and helps build trust before the tour even begins.

The insight?

Automation should remove repetitive workβ€”not personality. The best systems save time while still making guests feel they're dealing with real people.

The Google Business Profile Playbook

Your Google Business Profile is often the first thing potential customers see.

Yet many operators spend hours improving their websites while leaving one of their most powerful sales tools largely untouched.

This week's guide shows you how to turn your Google Business Profile into a booking engine by covering:

  • Optimising every section of your profile
  • Increasing visibility in local search
  • Collecting better reviews
  • Improving AI and Google Search visibility
  • Small improvements that can generate more direct bookings

Like all our playbooks, it's designed to be practical, straightforward and immediately actionable.

Community β€” Highlights ➑️

The WhatsApp group has been buzzing with one topic this week: bikes.

Robert shared the arrival of his brand-new fleet after 10 months of planning, sparking a fascinating discussion around suppliers, pricing, branding, components and sourcing across Europe and beyond.

The conversation quickly expanded as members compared:

  • Dutch vs Chinese manufacturing
  • Belt drives vs traditional drivetrains
  • Fleet pricing
  • Shipping costs
  • Supplier recommendations
  • Ideas for future group purchasing discounts

One particularly interesting suggestion came from Denis in Tirana, who proposed exploring whether members could coordinate future group orders from the same suppliers while maintaining individual branding.

It's exactly the kind of conversation that makes this community valuable: one operator shares an experience, others contribute their own, and everyone walks away with new ideas.

Have a fantastic week and, as always, if you've got a question, a challenge or something that's working particularly well in your business, don't keep it to yourself.

Start the conversation in the WhatsApp group.

You never know what ideas it might spark.

See you next week,

Isabella

Hi Reader, I imagine many of you are right in the middle of your busiest weeks of the season. The WhatsApp group has been a little quieter lately, and honestly, that's probably a good sign. It usually means you're doing what you do best: running tours, welcoming guests and making the most of the summer. While you've been busy on the ground, we've kept working behind the scenes. This week I'm sharing something we've been building together over the past few months: the first Cycle Cities...

Hi Reader, Apparently there's a World Cup happening... πŸ˜„ As a Venezuelan, I have to admit I've barely noticed. Since we've never actually qualified, it has never really become a tradition for me. And there is the other sad news from my country taking much more space right now. (My family and friends are safe). So, I'm really happy if your team is doing great, or I'm very sorry if it's disqualified. Let's dive in. Symposium News 🀝 Every week Hamburg gets a little closer. One of the speakers...

Hi Reader, I hope high season is treating you well, wherever you are in the world. Over the last week, one topic dominated the conversations inside the community: heat πŸ₯΅ With much of Europe currently experiencing a significant heatwave, operators from across the network shared how they're adapting tours, supporting guides, and keeping guests safe while temperatures continue to rise. More on that below. But first... Symposium News 🀝 Preparations for Hamburg 2027 continue to move forward...
