๐Ÿ Cycle Cities Buzz - Building the this together ๐Ÿšฒ

Hi Reader,

I'm warning you now: this week's newsletter comes with a lot of information.

So grab a coffee, take a few minutes, and don't skim this one too quickly.

We've got an important Symposium update, a new Gold Nugget from the Groupwork sessions, a new practical tool, something cool from London, and the date for our first Cycle Cities webinar.

Let's get into it.

Symposium News ๐Ÿค

We've got a hotel discount for Hamburg!

A big thank you to Lars for securing a special accommodation rate for Cycle Cities Symposium participants at Superbude St. Pauli.

The following content is only visible for the Cycle Cities Members.

You can use the code:

CycleCities210227

The offer is available for stays between 21โ€“25 February 2027, with a minimum stay of 2 nights.

There are 20 rooms available at the special rate:

Room

Price per room / night

6 ร— Double Room Mini โ‚ฌ94

7 ร— Double Room โ‚ฌ104

7 ร— Double Room Maxi โ‚ฌ109

Prices include breakfast, VAT, and the culture & tourism tax.

The rates are based on 1 person. For 2 people, there's an additional โ‚ฌ25 per room/night.

A few things to know

  • ๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Bookable with the discount until 8 weeks before the Symposium
  • ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Minimum stay: 2 nights
  • ๐Ÿงพ Free cancellation up to 7 days before arrival
  • ๐Ÿจ 20 rooms available at the special rate

And if you're planning to stay a few days longer, or arrive a little earlier, you can also extend the use of the discount code for additional days before or after 21โ€“25 February.

For those extra days, you'll need to book by email or phone and simply mention the code.

If you're a Pro member, don't forget that your Symposium ticket is already included in your membership.

You still need to register, though โ€” so make sure you do that before September 30.

And for everyone else:

โฐ Early Bird ends September 30

The Early Bird Symposium rate is available until September 30.

After that, the regular rate will apply.

So if you're planning to join us in Hamburg, now is a good time to get your registration sorted.

And one more thing...

Is there a topic you'd like to see discussed at the Symposium?

I'm currently working on the itinerary and we still have a few slots available for talks.

If there's a topic you'd like to hear about, or something you've been working on that you think other operators would find useful, write to me.

Groupwork Gold Nuggets ๐Ÿ’›

Scaling without losing the experience

We're staying with the same group as last week:

High-Volume Hubs โ€” Large Fleets & High Frequency

The next question was:

What is your "break-even" point for fleet turnover in a high-wear city environment?

And... this one didn't exactly produce a Gold Nugget.

The following content is only visible for the Cycle Cities Members.

The operators in the group weren't sure what the question was actually asking.

The discussion even raised the possibility that the question had been generated by AI and didn't properly reflect a real operator problem.

So no financial figures, no fleet turnover formulas or magical break-even point.

And that's useful information too.

Sometimes the answer is: this isn't the right question.

One of the things we want these Groupwork sessions to capture is what operators actually think about, not what we think they should be thinking about.

If a question doesn't make sense to the people running these businesses every day, that's something worth knowing.

It also gives us a good reminder when we're turning these conversations into resources:

The useful insight has to come from the operators.

Tool of the Week ๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

#17 โ€” The Bike Tour Operator Marketing Prioritisation Tool

This one is short and very practical, I promise.

Stop trying to do everything. Decide what deserves your attention.

The problem is rarely a lack of ideas, is actually knowing what to focus on first.

That's what this week's tool is designed to help with.

It helps you identify the marketing activity that deserves your time, money or attention right now.

Because sometimes the best marketing decision might be finally fixing the thing you've been putting off.

Community โ€” Highlights โžก๏ธ

๐Ÿค– Save the date: our first Cycle Cities webinar

I'm very happy to announce that I'll be hosting my first Cycle Cities webinar on:

AI-Powered Social Media for Bike Tour Operators

๐Ÿ“… 21 Octoberโ€‹
โฐ 19:00 CETโ€‹
โฑ๏ธ 1 hour

I'll be sharing practical ways AI can help make social media less time-consuming for bike tour operators โ€” from creating content to streamlining and automating parts of the process.

The goal isn't to add another complicated system to your business.

It's to find ways to make the work you already have to do easier.

๐Ÿ‘‰ Join the webinar โ€” Google Meetโ€‹

And if you can't make it live, don't worry.

The session will be recorded and shared afterwards.

Sometimes, look up.

A big thank you to Robert from The London Bicycle Tour Co. for sharing these photos with the group.

He spotted this advertisement painted on a large wall over three days, with a team of four people working on ropes.

And it made me think:

We spend so much time looking at our phones, our bookings, our bikes and our to-do lists that sometimes we forget to look up.

There are interesting things happening right above our heads.

So here's your reminder for the week:

Look up. ๐Ÿ‘€

You might be surprised by what you find.

See you next week,

Isabella

Hi Reader, Over the past few months, we've been building quite a collection of tools for Cycle Cities members. From direct bookings and customer acquisition to profitability, capacity, pricing, decision-making and Google Business Profile, the library keeps growing. But there's something I want to emphasize: These tools aren't being created in isolation. A lot of them come directly from the questions, challenges and ideas that come up in the community. We look at what operators are discussing,...

Hi Reader, September is here. And somehow, that always feels like a bit of a turning point. For some of you, high season is still going strong. For others, things may already be starting to slow down. But September has a way of making us look ahead. There are still a few months left in 2026, but suddenly 2027 doesn't feel quite so far away anymore. So, as we head into the final stretch of the year, here's what's been happening inside Cycle Cities. Symposium News ๐Ÿค We're now in the final month...

Hi Reader, August is gone and 2027 is around the corner! We're entering the final stretch of the year, which somehow means that, even while we're still thinking about the current season, we're already starting to think about 2027. What worked this year? What didn't? What would you like to change? And perhaps most importantly: what kind of business do you want to be running this time next year? September is often the moment when those questions start becoming a little more real. So, as we move...
