🐝 Cycle Cities Buzz - First Buzz by Isabella! + Big Changes, Big Opportunities Ahead

Hi Reader,

Introducing myself

Hi Reader,

Some of you already saw me pop into the WhatsApp group this week, but for those who don’t know me yet, I wanted to properly introduce myself.

My name is Isabella, and I’ll be stepping in as Managing Director for the next 6 months, working closely with Steve while he takes a well-deserved step back.

I come from a project management background across different industries, from film production, to events, and now in a creative marketing agency. Different worlds, but all with one thing in common: making things happen, bringing structure to complexity, and making sure ideas actually move forward.

That’s exactly how I see my role here.

Over the next months, I’ll be:

  • Supporting Steve in shaping the next phase of Cycle Cities
  • Bringing more structure to how the community operates
  • And helping lay the foundations for the new membership system (coming very soon)

There’s already a lot in motion, and I’m excited to help turn that into something even more solid, useful and valuable for all of you.

Symposium News

I know many of you are already looking ahead to Hamburg, and from everything I’ve seen so far, it’s shaping up to be a really special one.

A city with strong roots in the community, a great host, and the right energy to bring people together again.

I’m confident it will be:

  • Enriching
  • Productive
  • And, of course, fun

If you haven’t already, make sure to secure your spot.

Register NOW for Symposium 2027

Remember: Tickets cost €349 per person, a super-early-bird rate. On April 15, 2026, the price will rise to €399, so secure your spot now!

Groupwork Gold Nuggets 💛

Groupwork continues to be one of the most valuable parts of Cycle Cities, where real operators share what actually works on the ground.

Here is this week's interesting insights from Morning Group B: Growth Hackers: Sales & OTAs (Rob Dijkhuis, Ari Apteker, Tiago Monteiro, Rob Graham, Aitor Guadilla Olozaga, Emmanuel Darley).

Question 1. . What is your "secret weapon" for managing Viator/GetYourGuide without losing your margins?

Short answer: there isn’t one.

• The group candidly admitted they don’t actively manage OTAs anymore.
• Without direct contact or account managers, it’s hard to influence anything.

👉 These platforms aren’t easily “played” and margins are difficult to protect.

Feels like a shared challenge across cities.

Has anyone found something that actually works when it comes to OTAs?

Whatsapp Discussion

I joined the WhatsApp group this week, and I have to say... it didn’t take long to see how active (and useful) this space is.

First unexpected learning:
Apparently, my name Isabella means “father” in Estonian.

So I guess that makes me Darth Vader now.

Not sure what that says about my role here… but I’ll take it.

Now, back to business talk: Toomas shared very interesting information after noticing something we probably all relate to:

👉 People don’t read terms & conditions.

Instead of making them longer, the idea is to make them clearer, more human, and easier to engage with.

He also shared the next step they are exploring:

“In-house insurance. 10% of rental price. To cover stolen/lost bicycles cost.”

Which opened up a really valuable discussion:

💡 Key takeaways from the group:

  • The word “insurance” can create legal complications (EU regulations)
  • Alternatives like “option” or “flex” work better commercially
  • Add-ons don’t need to be widely used to be valuable, they can still improve the overall offer

Examples shared:

  • Late cancellation option (up to 30 min before start) → +11% or 5.5€
  • Bike damage coverage → ~5.5€
  • Flexible cancellation upgrades (from 30 min up to 24–72h)
  • Different pricing strategies depending on market

So, if you are not in the Whatsapp Group, you are missing out on great information and resources.

Community — What’s next

The new community strategy is getting very close, and you’ll start seeing more structure and clarity in how everything connects:

  • Membership
  • Knowledge sharing
  • Events
  • Communication

Excited to be here, excited to get to know you all, and excited for what’s coming next.

See you in the WhatsApp community and in the next buzz.

Hi Reader, After a lot of work behind the scenes, we’re finally ready to share what’s next. Cycle Cities is evolving: from a community into something more structured, more focused, and more directly linked to business growth. And with that comes a new membership program. Hi Reader, My first week stepping into this role has been challenging, in the best way. There’s a lot happening behind the scenes, a lot to connect, and a lot of potential to unlock, which makes it a very interesting place to be right now. Social Media — Let’s get things moving 📲 One of my first priorities is to reactivate Cycle Cities’ social media, mainly Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. If you’re not following Cycle Cities yet, now is a good moment to do it: 👉 Instagram👉 Facebook👉...

Hi Reader, Introducing Isabella, CC's new MD for the next 6 months. At Symposium I announced I was taking a break for 6 months. I am happy to introduce to the community Isabella Galavis Lerbs, the new Cycle Cities Managing Director for the next 6 months. If the name sounds familiar, I was speaking to Maria (Formerly from Valencia bikes, who also attended our Symposiums in Bruges, Bilbao and Marseille), and she recommended her sister for this role. After meeting with Isabella and discussing...
